The Case for Causelists

The Case for Causelists

“The Case for Causelists” is a working paper that:

  • Explores the vital role of causelists in the legal system
  • Analyses challenges faced by stakeholders due to causelist design and comprehensiveness and suggests possible solutions
  • Brings together best practices in designing causelists from Indian and international courts
  • Emphasises the need for accessible, user-friendly causelists

The paper seeks to spark conversations around often neglected issues within the legal system, such as the necessity for predictability in court hearing schedules, the need to challenge existing perceptions, and the need for practical solutions aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in legal proceedings.

We examined causelists from various High Courts and the Supreme Court of Indian courts, and consulted with lawyers, litigants, and judges, to identify significant challenges arising from causelist content and dissemination methods.

In the posters below, we have tried to simplify our research for you for a better understanding.
